The White Building

The White Building in White Post Lane, Hackney Wick, is London’s new centre for art, technology and sustainability. An incubator for big ideas and innovation, it serves as a creative lab for artists whose work engages with technology.

Run by SPACE, The White Building’s aim is to act as an international beacon for local creative industries, as well as a resource and venue for residential and educational communities in the area. The Geezers recently worked with SPACE on a film project – The Geezers on Tour in Hackney Wick – exploring the industrial history of Hackney Wick and the contrast with its post-Olympics emergence as a centre for creative and design businesses.

Here Fiona Fieber from SPACE tells us how sees the building working with the local community.

The centre is anchored by a residency programme that is unique amongst UK public institutions, offering opportunities for emerging and mid-career artists to produce new work on an international platform. It comprises a residency studio, which doubles up as a temporary exhibition space, a flexible event space, and studios for creative practitioners. It is also home to CRATE Brewery & Pizzeria – which is regularly voted as one of the UK’s best independent breweries and eateries. Pizzas to die for and great beer.

The White Building is a partnership with the London Legacy Development Corporation. SPACE sponsor Bloomberg is the White Building’s major programme sponsor, supporting the Permacultures residencies and the People Power schools programme under the Bloomberg ON collaboration.
