Geezers attend Kate Thompson’s new book launch

The Women's Hall at the Tower Hamlets Borough Archives was packed for the launch of Kate Thompson's new book: The Stepney Doorstep Society

The launch of Kate Thompson’s new book: The Stepney Doorstep Society, was really well attended as you can see from the photo above. It was held last Thursday in The Women’s Hall, at the Tower Hamlets Archives and featured lively first hand accounts from many of the ladies whose stories are in Kate’s book. You can see them on the stage in the photo.

The Stepney Doorstep Society gives a voice to the selfless matriarchs of London’s East End who sacrificed everything to protect their families and communities.

History is usually written about the exploits of the ruling class – but this book is refreshingly different. Kate has been visiting and listening to working class Eastenders as a key part of her research. She came to visit the Geezers last year, and on the day of the launch popped a copy of the book through Ray’s front door.

Author, Kate Thompson, with Geezers (L-R) Don Tomlin, Ricky Ayliffe, Barrie Stradling, & Ray Gipson.

Kate wrote a brilliant preview of the book in this Daily Mail article here.

The book is proving so popular that Kate ran out of copies to sign, but it is still available from the Brick Lane Bookshop, and is available on Kindle.
