Save our shops: 422 and 418

The Roman Road Resident and Business Association needs your help to stop yet more loss of shop and retail space in the Roman.  Please lodge your objections.

Here’s what they have to say on their website:

A HUGE thank you to the very many of you who answered our call to object to the Arbers planning application – the Planning Department tells us they were inundated.

We’re still waiting to hear what will happen to Arbers but even before we find out, two more shops are threatened.

Last year, we managed to stop 422 being granted permission to change from a shop to an insurance office – nonetheless, they kept using it as an insurance office and now are applying again on the basis that they’ve been doing so for a year.

Two doors down, at Royal Deluxe Dry Cleaners at 418, an application would see the shop lose around 35% of its floorspace and 25% of it shop frontage.

Both of these would add to the gradual reduction in available, viable shop units – at a time when our Group is contacted regularly by people desperately searching for shop units to open fantastic shops and not being able to find anywhere.

You’ve done it before and now we need your help again. Please follow the links below to copy and paste the letters of objection to be sent to dr.development@towerhamlets.gov.uk.

This application seeks to build a studio flat on the ground floor of the shop meaning it would lose about 35% of its floorspace and 25% of it shop frontage, and become unviable for many new businesses. Read more here.
