Objectors Force Redevelopment Plans onto Council’s Agenda

Good news from MEOTRA (the Mile End Old Town Residents Association).  In December we reported that they had major reservations about plans to redevelop the Texaco Garage on Grove Road into Town Houses and Flats, with fears that portions of the scheme dwarf surrounding buildings. They were encouraging  people to register any objections by the deadline on Monday 21st December.

The good news is that there have been enough objections to force it on to the agenda of the Council’s Development Committee.  Below is the letter we have received from John White of MEOTRA

Dear Resident,

I have just heard from Cllr Joshua Peck (Bow West) that Tower Hamlets Council received over 40 objections to the proposals that were put forward to redevelop the site of the Texaco Garage in Grove Road. As this application has triggered over 20 representations it will be looked at by the Council’s Development Committee.

Objectors can request to speak at the Committee and will be contacted soon about how to go about this.

Thanks to all those who took the time to write letters of objection. Although there is a dire shortage of housing, it’s surely not beyond the wit of man to come up with a scheme that can provide valuable housing whilst also fitting in to the historic and special area we live in.

Yours,

John
