Musical Premier of “A Fair Field”

Striking Sparks, the story of the Matchgirls in Bow

The premier of a newly composed evening of music takes place next Saturday 1st July from 7pm. It will be in the People’s Palace – halfway between Stepney Green and Mile End tube stations. A Fair Field by Jonathan Pease tells the story of the Bow Matchgirls strike of 1888. They were protesting against terrible working conditions and low pay.

Taking part are Aldersbrook Commuunity Choir, East London Community Band, East London Children’s Choir, Poplar Singers, Queen Mary University of London Choir and the Victoria Park Singers.

It’s in the Great Hall of the People’s Palace, London, E1 4NS. Tickets are £7 / £5 concessions and are available from East London Music Group.
