Our local Safer Neighbourhood Team offer the following advice for the festive holidays:
- Please do ensure that you do lock all doors and windows when you are out but even if you are in, lock the ones where no one is going to be present.
- Would-be burglars can safely assume that during this particular time of the year that your home may be filled with Xmas presents, please do ensure that they are not visible from the outside and if any are of high value, please do consider informing your Insurance Company as they may not be adequately covered under your present level of cover.
- Should you be away during the holidays, consider letting a neighbour know or someone you trust to keep an eye on your home and can reach you in an emergency. In addition, having a light come on via a timer has proven to be a successful deterrent.
- When out and about, especially in the crowded shopping areas, please be vigilant and not be solely focused on your mobile handset in the open as this may be the time where a thief, would most likely try to steal valuables from you.
