Knapp Road School
It would be great to have contact with anyone remembering me during the 1950s at Knapp Road School. I lived in Rounton Road, which was opposite the main entrance to the school.
Some names that come to mind during that period are the Calvey brothers, The Bone twins. The Caudroys, Sam, Alan, Sally. Reggie Crane, David Winn, Raymond Cooper, Charlie Dell, Terry Underhill, and Lots more also. My best friend at that time was Charlie (chopper) Knight. He lived on the railway bridge next to the Fisk family and Skinners the barber shop on Devons Road opposite the Widows Son Public House.
Is anyone out there?
Jimmy Drysdale.
Sumner House, Watts Grove / Devons Road
I lived in the above from my birth ,1950 till 1968.
I’d love to hear from anyone who lived in this PBC block, or who has tales regarding its residents.
We had to move in April 1968 ,as part/all of it was to be demolished. It’s still there! Does anyone have the story regarding what happened.
I had a great childhood there and remember John Paine & his sisters, Michael Coleman and David Jones (sadly no longer with us). Tina and Terry Lowe, Len Fenn and Tony Gillard. The memories.

Hi Tracy
My family -savory- lived at 21 then 35 Sumner.
We too had to move in april ’68 due to demolition.
Does anyone know why Sumner was not demolished?
Tracy which schools did you attend?
Thanks.
Chris
I have just come across this post, my dad, Alfie Willmitt, lived at no 29 Sumner House with my nan Esther, and brother Charlie, my dad passed away last year, my Uncle Charlie is still alive. My dad had very fond memories of Sumner House, and I also remember it well, my nan lived there until she was told it was being demolished and had to move out, it never was. My dad always mentioned Mr and Mrs Kemp.
Hi
We moved to Debden in 1958 and since then lived in Epping, Hatfield Heath, Royston Herts, Kneesworth Cambs and now in North Norfolk.
Valerie
Morning Valerie
I must have gotten it wrong as I was sure there was a Valerie in our netball team.
Yes Maureen is now living in America she has been there since the early seventies.
She moved there with her husband and her son and his two sons.
I have lived in Debden for 53 years. Are you still living in Loughton ?
I lived in Buckhurst Hill for a couple of years before we moved to Debden so feel an Essex girl now 😂
Bow is not as we knew it now as I am sure you know but then everything has changed since we were young when everything seemed so carefree and joyful.
Anyway Valerie it is lovely talking to you although through messaging.
Keep safe and God bless 🙏
Love Linda 😘
Hi Linda
Nice to hear from you although I wasn’t in the netball team. Maureen was pretty little thing with blonde hair. We moved to Loughton after Bow and council decorators came round and surprise surprise Maureen’s uncle was one of them
Valerie (Taylor) now Wright
Hi Valerie
I think I can remember you being in the netball team, my name was Linda Ellis (it’s now Moncur) as I married John Moncur (Maureen Moncur’s cousin) I was in the netball team along with Jackie Hood Linda Sullivan Eileen King Vivien Westward to name some. I did have a photo of the team and will see if I can find it. But lovely to hear from you and remembering our school days.
Best wishes Linda Moncur (nee Ellis)
