Old East End meets New East End (or doesn’t!) in the Crown and Shuttle

Apparently saved from Crossrail demolition, the historic pub The Crown and Shuttle in Shoreditch High Street is now re-opened but to a mixed reception if you look at the Where’s My Boozer Gone! Facebook page.

According to local black cab taxi driver, Steve Lawrence, he spent an unpleasant  30 mins in there surrounded by hipsters.  Another contributor commented that he did well to last that long!  So here it is in a nutshell.  Part of  the ‘Old’ East End is saved but is occupied by the ‘New’ East End – just like in housing.  Its the familiar London story. Is this the inevitable price of ‘progress’ as one tribe is pushed out and another one moves in, usually in the name of someone else’s profit, or is there something we can do about it?
