St Albans Sat 2nd May

A new destination for the first Geezers’ coach trip of the year was St Albans and judging by everyone’s positive feedback it will definitely not be our last visit.

St Albans offers a rich blend of history, from its 1,100-year-old cathedral to Roman ruins, local museums, and a bustling market.
After a short coach ride we arrived. The sun was shining, the market was out and everything was set for a lovely day.
The market is worth a mention 150 stalls and it has been running since the 9th century which makes our Roman Rd market seem very new. Lots of shops run along either side so lots of opportunities to spend, spend, spend.

Lots of us looked round the Cathedral by ourselves or took a free tour. There was a lovely walk by the river and lots of interesting pubs and shops to visit including the Geezer favourite a Wetherspoons. This one used to be a barn so we happily herded in for a few drinks.
Some of us also visited one of the many pubs which claim to be the oldest in the country “Ye Olde Fighting Cocks” which claims to been open since 793, one or two geezers claimed to have been there waiting for it to open.
Cambridge Tues 2nd June

The coach drop off point in Queens Road was a perfect starting point to explore everything Cambridge has to offer.

A short walk along Silver Street led us to the market square with stalls and quirky little shops.
We split up into smaller groups.
Shoppers

The weather on the day didn’t stop us enjoying ourselves but unfortunately a Punt on the river Cam is best done on a sunny day. We hope to return again.

Culture Vultures
Alan and Sheila headed for the Fitzwilliam Museum. Cambridge University was founded in 1209. Over the years plenty of it’s scholars toured the world bring back more than enough “holiday souvenirs” to fill the museum.

Then Alan and Sheila walked into the nearby Cambridge Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology.

After feeling museumed out Alan and Sheila joined our third group:
