Geezers Go On a Bat Walk around Bow Cemetery

Bring garlic, a torch, sensible shoes, and some holy water. That was the advice given before the geezers and friends set out on an organised bat walk.

Chief geezer Eddie and Kenneth Greenway, Cemetery Park Manager took the intrepid gang of batmen and women around the favourite hunting grounds of some tiny little common pipistrelle bats.

Ken explained to the group that bats have had a bad press and a lot of myths and old wives tales surround them.

We went equipped with some high tech bat detectors to help us locate the only true flying mammals.

It all went really well and we would recommend a visit. Maybe just leave the crucifix at home!

Kenneth Greenway, Cemetery Park Manager

Ken began working for the Friends in September 2002. Now the manager of the Cemetery Park, he works with the Friends, volunteers, the local council, and visitors to the Cemetery Park to conserve, protect and develop the site. He loves how the Cemetery Park has become a focus of interest and enjoyment to the community and takes great satisfaction from the way wildlife and people have responded so positively to the efforts of the Friends and volunteers. You’ll often find Ken litter picking, delivering Forest School, or running foraging tours and bat walks.
