Ray Gipson (1940 – 2024) was involved in the founding and/or supporting of many local football teams. Mostly they were based in and around Hackney Marshes, playing in the Hackney & Leyton League from the early 1960’s until 1976.

Ray first played in the Hand and Flower FC which he setup with the publican, Jack Morgan. Ray went on to create the Parnell Rovers FC and Rayjack FC.

Ray Gipson’s son, Perry, recently gave us some team photos from Ray’s archive. Most are colour photocopies. We’d like to hear from anybody who knows the names of the teams, or from anybody who played in them. Please contact us via the top menu above. Perry subsequently wrote to me to say that these photos are basically of two teams, Tipples (Tower Hamlets), and the old Ordell. Most of the players played for both teams.
