In a pair of narrow boats the Geezers and friends retraced last year’s route along the Hertford Union Canal to the River Lea, ably steered by Beth and Connor of Laburnum Boat Club.

Not all of us had travelled by barge before. ‘It’s just so peaceful,’ said Rachel as we enjoyed a greener, calmer and slower side of Bow.

This was a less strenuous day by the Lea than the Geezers’ sponsored walk the previous week, and the lift in Laburnum’s narrow boat The Lady Mildmay meant there were no restrictions on who could take part.

The rain held off and we disembarked at The Princess of Wales for an excellent and very welcome lunch before the return trip.
