It all kicks off today Sunday 12th July. A week of fun and entertainment on the Roman Road. Today is a day of sporting capers in Gladstone Place, with plenty to do before tennis at two. It finishes with a flourish next Sunday the 19th at the crafty Sunday market and sparkling Eid Party at Roman Road car park. Throughout festival week shops, cafés and venues host special events – time to celebrate and enjoy all things local!

Sunday 12th July – Village Screen and Sports Day
The Opening Sunday of this year’s Roman Road Summer Festival will be at Gladstone Place on Sunday 12th July. Expect a day full of sporting fun, with plenty to do before tennis at two! They’ll be daft street games, not just for kids, cartoon capers on the big screen followed by the Wimbledon Men’s Final, and a live pavement street art project for everyone to colour in. Bring a rug and tuck into a fine festival feast from our local food providers, followed by strawberries and cream, all washed down with quintessentially English Pimms or a glass of homemade limeade. 11.00-11.15am | IMD Legion opening spectacular
The day starts with a spectacular dance display from East London dance crew IMD Legion, of Britain’s Got Talent fame.
11.30-13.30 | Cartoon Time
Sporting capers to entertain the children on our big outdoor Village Screen.
13.30-finish | Wimbledon Men’s Final
Wimbledon Men’s Final will be screened live form our Village Screen at Gladstone Place. Take your seat on our artificial lawn. They’ll be Pimms and Strawberries & Cream too.
11.30-12.30 | West Ham Foundation skills session
West Ham Foundation will be at Gladstone Place offering an hour of skills workshop. Learn from the coaches! First come first served.
12.45-13.45 | Tower Hamlets Tennis skills session
Tower Hamlets Tennis will be at Gladstone Place with rackets and balls offering children introductory sessions of tennis.
14.00-15.00 | West Ham Foundation skills session
West Ham Foundation will be at Gladstone Place offering an hour of skills workshop. Learn from the coaches! First come first served.
ALL DAY | Street games
Table tennis, Connect 4, Swing Ball and giant Jenga, led by the Roman Road Adventure Playground Team. And spot the balloon modellers, Sophie and Matt.

Come and eat Sunday brunch down the Roman. We have a feast of food on offer including jerk chicken burgers from Yvee’s Kitchen, Mediterranean platters from Bow Belly, Aperol Spritz and Italian sandwiches from Vinarius, gourmet sausage rolls from GKelly Pie and Mash shop, Pimms bar, Strawberries & Cream stall, and homemade lime-ade from Limehouse Laces girls football team.
Summer Night Lights will be giving away free food tokens all day to exchange at our street food stalls. Numbers limited per hour.
